The Fire Drill

For some reason, the workload appears to be increasing, and the last thing I needed was to be diverted by a fire drill. Well, the annual or twice a year drills are required and necessary, but they always seem to come at the most inconvenient times. So, as we made our way to the street, and checked in to be sure we were accounted for, a colleague and I headed to the little French coffee shop across the street to actually get some work done. Luckily, we beat the masses, and got a table in the front window and observed the hoards of employees standing around until the okay to return was declared. We got coffee, and did actually get something done. Usually, we end up standing around for almost an hour, and it takes a long time to get everyone back in the building because we have to pass through security again. But in this town it is an ever present threat that the building will need to get evacuated quickly for a lot of different reasons. I'm happy that I can get home as quickly if I need to, but do have concerns that whatever affects the workplace would probably affect our neighborhood too. I never really thought about these sorts of things in Milwaukee, but we are constantly reminded by the ever present police and security measures.
