For all the visitors who are flocking to the Capitol City for Spring Break and anytime over the next several months, they will be surprised to see the National Mall is not as accessible as in the past. A project has been underway for quite some time to clean up the Mall, construct irrigation systems, and update it to a reasonable standard that one would expect in a city such as this. It's really about time for the work to be done, but the downside is that all the events that typically are scheduled in this park space cannot be held at this location this year. That means the fireworks, book festival, and numerous Smithsonian events will be affected in some way and may need to be held in alternate, less accessible places- or perhaps not at all. The solar exhibit is moving to California. But the every day nuisance is that one can not just cross over to the other side at any point along this stretch. So for those who want to get to a specific destination, you'd better be clear on location before you leave - or you may end up having to get to the other side, and it will take a lot longer to get there.
