Observations, pictures, and sketches highlight the transition of moving to the nations's Capitol after 30 years of living in the Midwest. A clash in cultures? Maybe not!

Spicer's Reupholstery in Alexandria
For the last couple weeks we have been thinking about how we could spruce up the condo. We've been in DC for almost eight years since we moved from Milwaukee, where we lived for thirty years. The paint on the walls needs refreshing, but we have no idea what color would look good. I'm tired of the beige neutral blah and would prefer something a little warmer and pleasing to the eye. Rather than buy new furniture, we thought about perhaps reupholstering the couch. Someone recommended Spicer's in Alexandria. So we took a ride out there this afternoon after running errands in McLean, but arrived too late - they close at 2 PM on Saturday and are closed on Sunday. In the end we probably won't do anything with the furniture, but at least we can say we checked out all of our options and came to that conclusion. It looked like a nice place and we'll probably come back soon. Now, for that paint color....
