The Squirrel and the Owl

In Milwaukee we had squirrels running all over the place, and they liked the backyard bird feeders most. They are acrobats when it comes to food, as is everyone. Rather than walk to the Mall this afternoon we took another route towards Union Station. The duckboats aren't running this time of year, but the other tour buses are. Along the way the squirrels were scampering about, eating in earnest whatever was in their little paws. They must know something we don't. One in the tree was observing us below begging for a photograph. I make fun of people who take photos of squirrels, but that didn't stop me. On the way back home I noticed what looked like an owl sitting on the top of a house. I could brag that we have our own version of a snowy owl who unfortunately was hit by a bus in downtown Washington DC last week but lived to tell the tale. But upon closer inspection it was just a statue... maybe a scarecrow of sorts, or just an ornament that attracts interest - and it did. It was nice enough today to walk with a light jacket - as it should be here. Little signs of spring are everywhere, but there is snow forecast this week. I'll just have to look at the photos to remind myself it's not far away.
