St. Patrick's Day Parade on Constitution Avenue

Before the snow flies this evening and tomorrow the annual St. Patrick's Day parade must go on. We walked over to the Mall and towards Constitution Avenue. We have a few Irishmen in our family with the names of O'Brien and Crowley which makes the event seem a little more personal. The first thing we saw when we reached the Archives were police with little kids in their side cars making wheelies down the street. There were the usual Irish dancers and leprechauns, horses, marching bands and vintage cars. The people and spectators in the crowd were actually more entertaining than the participants. I particularly liked the green moustache and hair. The prep area along the mall towards the Washington Monument was filled with eager participants. All in all the weather cooperated - you could say it was probably better than a really warm day. Green was definitely the color and a lot of Irish and other eyes were smiling. We are never disappointed when we take a Sunday walk around here. We never went to a parade in Milwaukee. It was too much trouble to get to it. But there is no excuse to miss one if it's only a couple blocks away.
