Air Plants at Ginkgo Gardens

Compared to our one acre lot in Milwaukee, we now have a tiny patio and garden in DC.  We just put a grass path in because it was getting to look too much like a jungle, and hopefully it will hold up against the building wall and keep the moisture at bay. I just trimmed back all the winter wood in preparation for some annual planting. We also have a couple places to keep indoor plants, and have tried a few. But anything that requires watering and soil can get messy depending on the location. It seems the latest trend is air plants. So we researched them a bit and decided to give them a try. We went to our favorite neighborhood spot Ginkgo's to look for a container and a plant or two. It seems they just got a bunch of them in. So we asked a bit about their care and picked out a red one and another one that we hoped might bloom. My husband treats each plant as his child and tends to them daily. Since the place the plants reside does not get a lot of indirect sunlight, he puts them on the windowsill or table so they can catch a few rays. He gives them a weekly bath and when the weather gets a little warmer, will probably take them out to the patio for some fresh air. It looks as though all this attention might be doing them some good. Earlier photos of the plant show a much smaller bud. Now it seems to be getting bigger and wanting to bloom. Let's hope it happens. It's gives one such a sense of accomplishment! You wouldn't think and air plant would need all this care and attention. But in the end, it would get it anyway.
