Observations, pictures, and sketches highlight the transition of moving to the nations's Capitol after 30 years of living in the Midwest. A clash in cultures? Maybe not!

Orchids in Focus at the US Botanic Garden
Simply beautiful is all I can say. The exhibit just opened on February 27, and I wanted to make sure we stopped in during one of our morning walks on the national mall. The gardens are always very busy on the weekends, but they are full of school children during the week. But spring time in Washington is always the busiest time of the year, and this year is no different. From the minute we walked in, the scenes were breathtaking. Walls of orchids in all shapes, sizes, and colors handing from the ceiling, on a chandelier, from trees, and near fountains. It was a joy to walk through and experience the beauty of these mystical flowers. Several watercolor artists were seated about working their craft. There is always an orchid display at the rear of the gardens, but now they are front and center and enjoying the adulation they so deserve. I have a feeling we will return a couple more times. As my husband says, the city is filled with free entertainment. This one is definitely worth seeing.
