Persian Book Lecture Series at the Library of Congress - Film Farsi

I retired from the Library of Congress two years ago after working there for almost ten years. My husband and I still like to catch the free programs sponsored by the Library. We typically attend the Persian Book Lecture Series, and yesterday we went to see “Popular Iranian Cinema before the Revolution.” To get there we have to walk two blocks, which was what my daily commute used to be! And then, after going through security, we take the underground tunnel from the Madison to the beautiful Jefferson Building. I usually run in to a familiar face or someone be I used to work with. Every time we go through the Great Hall you can’t help but stop and look around. It is said to be one of  - if not THE - most beautiful buildings in the Capitol City. I used to take afternoon walks here on my way to the Capitol visitor center the get away from my desk. The place was packed yesterday with cherry blossom spring visitors, school groups, and locals alike. I rather like meandering through the place having built up a personal history with it. The lecture was in the ornate African/Middle Eastern Section. The speaker was quite entertaining and he showed clips of some of the more memorable films from the 60’s and 70’s. This is one of the reasons we like living on Capitol Hill. All it takes is a short walk and we have a little afternoon entertainment.
