Observations, pictures, and sketches highlight the transition of moving to the nations's Capitol after 30 years of living in the Midwest. A clash in cultures? Maybe not!

Old Town Alexandria Halloween & Skeletons
After getting our flu shots yesterday in McLean, my husband wanted to get his hair cut at the barber shop he goes to in Alexandria. It took a while longer than usual since it was Columbus Day and everyone was in the mood for a trim. Before we drove home we took a ride around Old Town to check out the Halloween decorations. You never know what you will find. Some years seem to be more outlandish than others. It still may be a little early for most of them, but a couple of houses were very decked out for the season. Skeletons seem to be big this year, and in particular there was one place that had skeletons, spiders, spider webs, spooks, and maybe even a horse!? The skeletons were both inside and outside. There was even one in the back of a Jeep. Too bad the cars parked in front of the rowhouses ruined the ambiance of the cobblestone street. There were also a couple of nicely stacked pumpkins and traditional seasonal wreaths. Old Town was probably one of the first neighborhoods we visited when we first moved here. It still has its charm.
