US Botanical Garden Christmas Monuments

Most people go to the US Botanic Garden at this time of the year to see the Christmas trains. Every year has a different theme - this time it’s called “All Aboard.” The display highlights train depots from all over the country. But before you get to the trains, you have to walk through the main lobby. It it beautifully decorated with the sights of the season. As all the buildings at the train display are made of plants, so too are all the monuments and memorials showcased in between the Christmas trees, poinsettias, garlands, and even a huge moose. The Capitol Building is most prominent and the Washington Monument stands tall in the center stage. My favorite ornaments are anything cardinal, and there are several birds sitting on the branches of the lighted trees. Overhead are huge chandeliers made with more poinsettias. This main lobby is always a wonderful place to visit as the displays change with the seasons. Christmas is always quite spectacular and this year is no exception. Outside there is one more train on display and it gets the attention of anyone coming or going. But one of my favorites is the huge tree in the big pot with giant silver ball ornaments that sits at the main entrance. Every year my husband and I take our traditional Christmas selfie of our reflection. I hope we have another opportunity to walk through the place. It’s just a happy thing to do.
