Old Town Alexandria Morning Walk

It was a beautiful fall, sunny sky kind of day. Every week we take a ride to a destination outside of our neighborhood for a morning walk. It breaks up the tedium of the “same old” and lifts the spirits. It’s practically the only thing we do that takes us out of the house aside from our recent interest in curbside grocery pick up vs delivery. So we headed to Old Town Alexandria - one of my favorite places. We parked by the Potomac River Park next to where the water taxi travels to and from Georgetown. All the boats were moored at the docks - nothing was coming or going, including the sightseeing vessels. The whole vibrant waterfront was dead. There were the locals taking in their morning walks too, but the place was nothing like it always was before March. There was a new art installation and park along the water, that took us back in to the neighborhood where all the interesting architecture still remained stunning. King Street was closed off but empty, even though the restaurants were making every attempt to appear inviting. The cobblestone streets were great to look at, but always created havoc on car tires. It was a great change of pace but it also reminded us that things just aren’t the same - no matter where we decide to drive to.
