Forester Cracked Windshield and Beyer Subaru

For whatever reason we thought it would be a good idea to get gasoline in the car before we picked up our out of town guests at the airport. Saturday morning we got in the car and there was a twelve inch crack line in the windshield extending from the driver’s right side up to the roofline where the safety eyesight system is housed. It wasn’t there the day before. Neither one of us could remember any particular incident, except maybe several weeks back when we got hit with a rock on the freeway, but nothing showed up until then. If it was any other time it wouldn’t have been a big deal, but we were going to be driving for a Virginia overnight excursion the next day and it wouldn’t do to drive around with a cracked windshield. So we decided the best thing to do was take our 2016 Forester to the Subaru dealer that we frequent. After explaining our dilemma, and having been a loyal Subaru customer (this was our third vehicle) - without a lot of fuss - but some reservation - they basically handed over to us the keys for a loaner. We would be leaving our car there for the repair and recalibration of the eyesight system. When our guests called to be picked up at the airport we told them to watch for a white rather than silver Forester. The loaner was a 2018 but a very basic cloth seat model compared to our 2016 with leather, maps, and every safety feature available. But it did have the new car smell! So we returned from our trip on Monday afternoon and drive right to the Beyer Subaru in Alexandria after having filed a claim and spoken to our insurance agent to go ahead with the repair. They said it could take a week. So now we still have the loaner and are waiting for the call. It’s not so bad, but we don’t like leaving the loaner parked on the street with Virginia license plates. Yes, we can use our parking permit, but we would rather have our own car.
