Capitol Hill Flowers

It was such a beautiful day when we were finally able to return to our old Capitol Hill neighborhood, park, and take a morning walk in our old stomping grounds. The fence on independence Avenue was removed. It was blocking our way in to the neighborhood and the perimeter surrounding the Capitol. Being spring, everything looked so pleasant and alive. Since the tidal basin was closed off to auto traffic and parking, we decided that the the US Botanic gardens and my old workplace - the Library of Congress - would have a fair share of bouquets to gaze upon. And we weren’t disappointed. The cherry trees were simply lovely by the Jefferson building and behind the fence at the front entrance to the Capitol. It was also bulb season and the daffodils and tulips didn’t disappoint. When we walked back through the neighborhood to the car the townhouses and rowhouses looked even more quaint with all the flowering trees. We traversed these sidewalks hundreds of times in the thirteen years that we lived there. Our old neighborhood was looking sad and sadder every time we stopped by earlier in the year with the pandemic feel about it. At least with spring and the flowers, things at least looked a bit brighter.
