National Gallery of Art Waterfall and Walkway

We have been spending more time in the DC museums since they are all beginning to open up again. We used to spend time walking through them on our morning walks when we lived on Capitol Hill. Now we have to drive in from northern Virginia, find a place to park on the national mall, and hope the lines aren’t too long. Last week we wandered through the National Gallery of Art. But before heading in we walked by the fountains that are in between the east and west buildings. Once inside the building, the connection underground is quite marvelous. The fountains above ground turn in to waterfalls. The walking ramp is like a Star Wars production. There are tiny flashing lights that make different patterns which make you want to hold on to the rails. Within this section of the connecting buildings is the cafeteria and gift shop. We like this museum because it is less busy with kids - unlike the air and space and natural history museums. You would never know these underground experiences exist - and they have nothing to do with the real gallery “art.”
