Observations, pictures, and sketches highlight the transition of moving to the nations's Capitol after 30 years of living in the Midwest. A clash in cultures? Maybe not!

The Deer Family
We were taking our morning walk in the park. This is the first fall we have experienced in northern Virginia. We moved almost eight months ago. So April and spring turned to August and Fall. Now it’s December and almost winter. As we were walking I mentioned to my husband that we haven’t seen any deer lately. Then I looked up and several pairs of eyes were looking directly at us from across the little stream. They were as interested in us as we were with them. It was almost too hard to see them clearly through all the twigs and fallen leaves. What we didn’t expect was to see a stately buck insist the group move along, while protecting the little ones and staring right back at us. We used to see deer all the time in our back yard when we lived in the Midwest. Our borzoi thought she was a deer when they came close to her fenced yard. So it was with great joy that we saw the family this morning.
