A Window Suddenly Opens Chinese Photography

Last week we took a walk on the National mall - something we try to do at least once a week. One reason is because we like going there having lived on Capitol Hill for thirteen years. The second is to take photos for the weekly challenge that I belong to. And every once in a while there is another reason to visit - a new exhibit at one of the museums that might be interesting to explore. On our way back to the car that was parked by the Smithsonian castle, I remembered that there was a new photography exhibit at the Hirshhorn Museum. We were there a couple of months ago and they were just setting it up. So I added a few minutes to the park mobile app and we made our way to the entrance. The scaffolding is finally coming down around the circular building after more than a year of restoration work. We headed up to the second floor and found the entrance to “a window suddenly opens - contemporary photography in China.” The collection represents twenty five artists that covers about thirty years of images in China. The arrangement of the art work was very pleasing to the eye. I can’t say I’m a big fan of a lot of the content but we did find the exhibit interesting at best. We have never visited China and my closest connection to it was a colleague that I worked with at the Library of Congress. And by six degrees of separation I was connected to the previous president through him. So this is the reason we like to visit DC. There is always something to see.
