New-Vi Umbrella Hat

We had regular old sunbrella umbrellas on our patios in the Midwest and on Capitol Hill. But when you live in a small condo with a tiny balcony a large standalone umbrella may not be the best item to have. But we also have the western exposure and it becomes quite hot mid day from spring through fall. I’ve been looking for options for quite some time. We came across umbrella hats. They look ridiculous. But if they serve the purpose we thought we would give them a try. And seeing as how they were twenty dollars for two, what would we lose? I can see that they would be ideal when you need to be hands free for things like gardening, fishing, or mowing the lawn. But for just sitting around we weren’t sure. They look like any other collapsible umbrellas and they have an air vent on top. But they also have straps to keep it on your head and another chin strap to keep it from flying off. They were very easy to “assemble” and very light on the head. And they actually do a pretty decent job. But if you want to look at each other it’s not that easy. We tried them a couple of times and wonder what the neighbors think! Conceptually it’s a great idea.  Realistically I’m not so sure. I think what we need is something that actually attaches to the chair so it can be put up and taken down with ease. I have one on order to give it a try. And if that works we will probably give these hat umbrellas to our son who does a lot of outdoor manual work. I doubt if he will use them but it will be pretty funny to see his reaction.
