Gutenberg Bible at the Library of Congress

It is amazing to see something that was created in the 1400’s! When we went to the Library of Congress this week to hear a speaker talk about economics, we stopped by to see the Gutenberg Bible first. I needed to get some photos for the weekly challenge with religion as the subject, so this would be a potential candidate. There were only a few people standing around the exhibit. The Bible looked to be floating in the unassuming case it was housed in. It’s not easy to get s decent picture through glass so I tried multiple times. We then headed to the lecture and were back an hour later. Except this time the library was now closed to the public and no one was in sight. The Jefferson Building is probably one of the most beautiful buildings in DC and the background for the Bible was even more magnificent. It stood there by itself with a church like backdrop. I have passed by this place so many times. When I worked at the library for ten years I would take afternoon walks from the Madison to the Jefferson building through the underground tunnels - then continue on to the Capitol visitor center. It was really a remarkable way to spend a few minutes getting away from my desk. Now we return for programs and photo ops. And we never get tired of it.
