A Crash in the Night

We just moved to Virginia from DC two weeks ago and the one thing that makes a house a home is having all the artwork, mirrors, and shelves hung on the walls. So I positioned everything in the place I thought would makes the most sense. We have a huge and very heavy mirror from pottery barn that my husband hates. It used to be above the black leather couch in the living room. But we gave the couch away and now it was relegated to the den - or I should say the “new” monks room. So our favorite go to all around handy people came over yesterday to put everything in place. It took almost the whole day to get everything right. So when we went to bed last night after the horrible storm and tornado threat we were startled to wake up to a huge BOOM at three AM. Both of us jumped out of bed and thought maybe the wind blew the patio furniture on the patio in to the window. So we ran to the living area and saw that everything was in place. Then we walked back to the bedroom and what did we see? The huge round mirror above the dresser had crashed to the floor. How it didn’t break we have no clue. (It’s a thirteen year old Ethan Allen piece.) The mirror was tucked behind the dresser. It broke through the lamp cord that was plugged in to the wall, which may have softened the blow. Needless to say neither one of us could fall back to sleep for quite some time. Luckily no one was hurt! So we called our handy people back this morning to tell them what happened and they immediately came over to fix the problem. We put a pillow on the floor behind the dresser “just in case” it ever happens again. You could say we are a little paranoid! In spite of it all, the artwork, mirrors and shelves all look nice. Now we need to find a chandelier that fits in with this very eclectic style.
