Following Directions - Not!

I was always taught to follow directions. When I see a sign that gives specific directions it seems reasonable to do what it says.  Obviously, some people don't ever see the need to do what they are told because they know better, or simply don't care. Maybe they are just so busy they just didn't notice it. That's even a better excuse. Regardless, here is a great example of what not to do. In our neighborhood there is a sign that clearly shows not to park past a certain point. Every day someone is parked past that point. I just didn't see so much lack of compliance to directions when we lived in Milwaukee. I just can't help but notice.

Bloglovin LITs Living on Capitol Hill

There was a curious item on an Internet search that showed my blog was connected to Bloglovin'. I checked it out and it looked really nice - particularly because I always use a few photos to help express my thoughts. I was even more pleased to see a couple followers. Because I had never heard of Bloglovin' I looked up the app. Apparently when you choose to follow a blog, it will let you know when it was updated. If you look at several blogs, this could be helpful as it keeps everything in one place. And it also suggests others blogs. It seems like I'm learning something new every day, which isn't hard to do. And that has nothing to do with where you live. One of our recent out of town guests from Milwaukee always keeps up with electronic gizmos and such. I'm happy to report that he had nothing on me.

The Yellow Flower Vine Fairyland

I first planted this vine by the fence of our tiny patio when we moved to DC from Milwaukee. We had an acre of land and a lot more fence in the Midwest. It was also a lot of work to maintain, and I don't miss that at all. Each year it is a treat to watch the vine mature and turn from just greenery in the winter to a magical fairyland in Spring. Some of the best things really do come in small packages- and this is one if them.

Lincoln Memorial Wedding

You really need to keep your camera/phone ready for whatever might come your way. Whenever we drive down Independence Avenue, the possibility of seeing a bride and groom is quite high. And such was the case at the Lincoln Memorial. It was a beautiful spring day with a crisp blue backdrop against the steps of the Memorial. I've captured similar action at the World War I Memorial and along the Tidal Basin. There is just something about capturing these happy occasions. And we could all use a dose of that right now.

A Capitol Visitor Center Tour

Our out of town guests were leaving this afternoon and decided a visit to the Capitol this morning would be more interesting than the Newseum. And it ended up being a complete visit in spite of the huge crowds. I had old gallery tickets from a few years ago that I successfully traded in for some new tickets for both the House and Senate. I always wear my Library of Congress work badge, so maybe that helped. Usually you need to get the passes at your Representative or Senator's office. The Senate was not in session so we visited the House Gallery. Unfortunately there was no action on the floor. But the movie, the tour of the Capitol, and the exhibits were well worth the time. I oftentimes take an afternoon walk to the Capitol Visitor Center in the afternoon. But it is so much nicer to bring guests to the Capitol. It is indeed an impressive place - even if you've been there as many times as we have.
