XO Range Hood Grease Filter Cleaning

Apparently our XO range ventilation hood was installed about a foot higher than is required in our four plus year old condo. So everyone has to have them lowered to meet code. So I was cleaning around the three grease filters that are installed in the range hood and noticed grease buildup. It was extremely difficult to clean so I got out the manual to find out the best way to handle this. I wanted to make sure the filters were clean before the work is scheduled some time this fall - if and when they finally get the larger cabinets that need to replace the original ones from Canada. I wasn’t sure if there were filters tucked inside the grease stainless steel pieces. So I sent an email to the XO company and they didn’t respond. So I continued reading about it and finally figured out that the additional charcoal filters were only needed for a ductless system - ours is vented to the outside. So finally I called the company to find out if dishwashing was safe, including the dry cycle. They suggested hand washing in soapy water but dishwashing was also safe if you don’t mind water marks, and that only soft cloths should be used. So yesterday we left the filters soaking in boiling hot soapy water and then hand washed then. They were still greasy feeling so we put them in the dishwasher. They came out finally looking clean. The tough part was removing the grease from the crevices. Now we know we need to wash the filters about every two months! When we put them back they were shiny and new and we felt a lot better about having figured this out for a whole host of reasons. I wonder who else remembers and even knows this needs to be done?
