Observations, pictures, and sketches highlight the transition of moving to the nations's Capitol after 30 years of living in the Midwest. A clash in cultures? Maybe not!

Star Pack Home Ultimate Silicone Turner
The black spatula got fried on the gas range. It blended in to the black background stove top and that was it. So I thought a non black spatula might help avoid that mess in the future. I looked around a bit and found a great looking turquoise utensil, but when it arrived it was much larger that I thought. My husband has been using it, but was complaining that it was too large for most of the things he uses it for. So I went back to the drawing board and found another one that was just about three inches wide and also turquoise from Star Pack Home. It seemed to be a better size and it also worked better for the task at hand. He makes a great omelette. My husband does most of the cooking - without recipes for the most part. So when he says he needs a kitchen tool I don’t hesitate to get it. It’s not that often. So now we have two new spatulas that hopefully will last a while. It’s the small things that matter these days. Christmas in July!

StarPack Home Ultra Flexible Wide Silicone Spatula
It’s hard to see a black spatula on a black gas range stove top. One of the spatulas stayed a little too close to the burner and “melted away” - not just an irritation but a fire hazard. Before we were “locked down” I could only find black spatulas in the grocery store and that wouldn’t do. So I looked around for a non black spatula that would be easier to see and use. Since the kitchen has some seafoam/blue accessories, a “turquoise” color would compliment the area. The StarPack Home Silicone spatulas looked nice and would be a great replacement. It arrived this week from Amazon and was much wider than I thought. But it would work well - especially for things that need a wide spatula - like an omelet. It doesn’t work with a small pan, but does for everything else. My husband does most of the cooking and knows what he likes. So far he has no complaints. Hopefully the turquoise will stick out on the black stove top. If nothing else, it does the job.
