52Frames Leading Lines

This subject this week for the photo challenge was “leading lines.” I rather like this topic because there are usually a lot of options. We thought about the Navy Yard area on the Anacostia River as a potential place. So we drove to our old Capitol Hill neighborhood and started our walk where we lived for thirteen years. First up were the alleyways with all the garbage cans, the sidewalks in front of the rowhouses, the interstate entrance ramp, and the department of transportation building. At the river was an interesting pedestrian bridge, a beautiful park, and the river front. Then a walk towards nationals stadium with the newly built Frederick Douglass bridge in the background. There were many street scenes and the graffiti under the expressway on our way back to the car. Later in the week we went in to town again. The funny thing was someone stopped us at a crosswalk to ask if we had been down by the waterfront earlier in the week taking photos. She had been there with her dog and recognized us! In the very brisk wind we walked around the National Mall stopping by the National Gallery sculpture garden and capturing a cute squirrel, then several images of the Capitol along Pennsylvania Avenue. The last stop was the disabled veterans memorial on our way back to the car. In the end we selected the park photo by the waterfront, even though I liked the squirrel better. The weekly challenges get us out of the house - something we desperately need!
