Screen on the Green

There used to be outdoor drive-in movie theaters where you would get in the car, find a space to park, and hook the sound system to the window. Then at intermission the bug spray truck would fumigate the area to get rid of mosquitos. We went many times as a family growing up in the 50's and 60's as my parents loved movies. Then slowly over the years they all seemed to disappear. Now it isn't uncommon to have movies shown on the big screen outside in the open spaces. One of those spaces is on the National Mall. Yesterday as we took our Monday morning walk it looked like they were setting up for what was probably the last of four sessions for Screen on the Green. The venue is perfect and the comforts of porta potties were being placed on either side of the viewing area. We have never attended one of these outings but they seem to be quite popular. They also started showing "scary" movies in Congressional cemetery. I for one choose to sit in the best place for movie watching - in my living room, with my feet up on a comfortable couch.
