Lowering the Oven Vent Hood & Adding Knobs

When we moved in to our condo in northern Virginia over four years ago we thought it wouldn’t need a lot of repairs since it was brand new. After living in a one hundred plus year old building on Capitol Hill for thirteen years we thought this would be a non issue and we looked forward to a tranquil place. But as all things go, repairs were required. The kitchen cabinets were chipping so the vendors removed the doors and repainted them. Since then we have been keeping a towel on the sink when we do dishes so the water doesn’t cause more damage. The water pipes needed to be checked for something else. Then we learned the range hoods were installed not to code - much higher than they should have been. So after waiting many months for the materials to arrive, we finally had the range hood lowered to the appropriate height this week. That meant that the false cabinets above it would be larger and the lack of knobs would look tacky. Before they installed the new cabinets I had asked the expediter if they could find some matching knobs because I couldn’t find them anywhere. He said he would accommodate the request and it would cost us sixty dollars to buy and install them. I’m glad we did because the kitchen looks better with the knobs. I’m actually surprised more people didn’t request them. We did have the option to install a sleeker looking vent hood, but that would have required tearing out the tile and redoing the entire place and it would have taken a week to complete. We just wanted to get it over with in the least disruptive way. Today the HVAC guy came to change the filter and do the seasonal adjustments. I’m just glad the appointments are finally over with - until the next problem.
