It's Always Nice to Get Noticed - Thanks DC Blogs

It is nice to get noticed. When I checked the stats for my blog this morning, there was a definitive spike. The next step is to check DC Blogs. And there it was - my entry from yesterday was mentioned about having twenty-six bosses in forty years. I always hope the material I write about strikes a chord with someone. The widget map on my front page shows hits from all over the world. I like to compare life in the Midwest to life in the nation's Capitol. Would you believe there really are differences? And surprisingly, there are even similarities. I've made it a habit to make an entry every single day regardless of where I am. So thanks for noticing DC Blogs...I always thanks them on twitter too. Is that something I learned living in the Midwest? No, I'll credit my parents for that.

Last week we saw an incredible number of Canadian geese hanging around the Potomac River near the Washington Monument  and Jefferson Memorial. We saw them all the time in Milwaukee too - but not this many at one time. It looked like "goosefest" - an organized call to gather. I added several photos on my blog, and posted videos and photos to Twitter. DC Blogs has noted several of my entries over four years. But I've never had a tweet noticed - until today. Thanks DC Blogs! I appreciate it! And as always, I thank them via Twitter and get a like back. It's so nice to be in such polite company - which is very unusual around here.

I've been writing a daily blog for over three years about moving from the Midwest to DC. You could say everything seems surreal when you move here and I couldn't help but notice the differences - and in rare instances - similarities. It takes a lot of commitment and creativity to think of something to say every day. I always check the stats to see which entries do better than others, and it is fascinating to see how far it is read all over the world. Whenever I notice an uptick in readership, I check DC Blogs to see if my blog was mentioned. Thanks once again DC Blogs for noticing today my entry from yesterday about the price of jury duty. I always follow up with a thank you note via twitter to DC Blogs for the mention. It's just plain etiquette, something I was taught to do as a youngster, and reminds me of the Midwest culture. 

A Really Great Day

After a lousy week of rain and dreariness, rude behavior, and losing my tiny Betta Fish Moby Dick to fish heaven, yesterday made up for it completely! Late on Thursday evening I received an email from Etsy that said one of my listings for custom cat portraits was getting a lot of traction in the stats. And it was! Soon after I had two requests for custom cat portraits. The views for the day almost reached 1000! One of my tiny fish instant digital download images sold last week and the person who bought it wrote a really nice feedback. Then DCBlogs noted my entry about rude behavior, and the stats on Blogger took off. An annoying problem in the condo building was finally being addressed, it was an absolutely beautiful day outside and I was off! But it doesn't end there. We went to Gingko's and got our annual tomato plant, a pea vine, and a digitalis plant. When we returned from lunch my Borzoi radar was on and we saw a young pup out in Garfield Park. Immediately we got out of the car to see her and the owner and inquire about it's background. We had a beautiful Borzoi in Milwaukee and absolutely love this breed and even have been thinking about getting another one. Just last week I painted three Borzoi portraits and enjoyed every minute of it. Then we went for our afternoon walk and decided it was a good time to visit my high school classmate that works in the Senate Office Building. I haven't seen her since high school and maybe one time more after college. It was so nice to see her again with the promise of having coffee or lunch. It's great to visit with people from your past and reconnect like it was yesterday. So my husband kiddingly asked what did he get out of all of this? Osmosis...It doesn't take much to make us feel good about things and for that I'm sincerely grateful.

Every once in awhile one if my blog posts gets someone's attention. The last couple entries had to do with the very poor FedEx customer service that necessitated a ridiculous trip to the Beltsville pick up station. Apparently a lot if other folks must have the same problem. I don't mind doing my part if we had not been home for the delivery, but that just wasn't the case. Thanks DC Blogs for noticing the entry. I have a feeling it touched a nerve! 

Thanks DC Blogs - A World View

Every once in a while my blog post gets noted by DC Blogs. I can always tell because the statistics for the day increase significantly. I really appreciate that someone notices! It got me thinking that I started LIT's Living on Capitol Hill(Hell)!? almost three years ago and I haven't missed a day. And LIT has become my signature logo for my Etsy, Facebook, Zazzle, Fine Art America, and personal websites. It takes a lot of time, observations and perseverance. What I find really interesting is the sheer breadth this thing takes. The map tells the story. Every one of those dots represents someone who took the time to notice and/or read an entry. Now it's past 36,000 views and counting. As long as I enjoy doing it I'll keep at it. I've always loved gadgets and writing and painting and taking pictures. And these modes of communication make it so much easier to do all of it.
