Observations, pictures, and sketches highlight the transition of moving to the nations's Capitol after 30 years of living in the Midwest. A clash in cultures? Maybe not!

Tree Art
Just outside the door to the back of our building is the usual street parking. We are lucky enough to get a spot near the entrance. It just so happened that on this day, one of the trees that line the street is in a transformational stage. The beautiful green color of the tree trunk caught my eye, and I was intrigued by the pattern that was created as the bark sheds. Each side had its own unique feature and could easily be the inspiration for a painting or two. I'm certainly no botanist, and there is more than likely a scientific name for this process. Most people probably pass by this scene without thinking twice about it. I think it is a really cool picture. Nothing takes the place of nature, and this is another great example, on a street by our house in Washington DC.
