Tidal Basin Cherry Trees in the Fall

The Tidal Basin is known for the cherry trees that have been around since about the 1920’s. Spring is probably the time of year when DC is most congested, although the last two springs can’t count. We always went to visit the beautiful blooms every year when we lived on Capitol Hill and still continue the tradition now. You wouldn’t think that the trees would look very good in the fall. But they are actually quite spectacular. We took a morning walk at the tidal basin during the peak fall season and it was simply lovely. The basin is flooded at one end making some of the reflections even more exceptional. With the blue skies and bright sunshine it was a delight to walk about. The leaves in the water added to the overall ambiance and the reflections of the monuments were crystal clear in the very still basin. It’s nice to be able to still visit our favorite DC places at any time of the year.
