52frames Common Object

I belong to a weekly photo challenge called 52Frames. Every week there is a specific subject that we need to take a photograph of and post it to the website by the Sunday night deadline. There are over 2,000 participants. Last week my photo entry was selected as a top 52 pick. That was the second time since I joined in October 2020. I never would have thought that was possible because I am not a trained photographer and my iPhone is my camera, and an old iPhone at that. Some of the subjects are more interesting than others. Last week was common object - not one that I particularly cared for. The only idea I could come up with was to use twenty years worth of eyewear. Don’t ask me why I have kept all of those glasses but there were six pair to use. I kept the ones I am wearing on so I could take the photo. So it tried arranging the glasses randomly, to look like a bug, and then a flower. I tried putting them in the sunlight, on the table top, and on the quartz counter top. There’s just so many ways to do it. Finally I had had enough of it and decided on the flower petals option after turning up the light and increasing the color interest. The subject this week is focal point. That could be just about anything. 

Lensable Was a Disappointment

I thought it was a great idea. My husband had cataract surgery in Feb/Mar but still needs glasses to read. We’ve been through having glasses all over the place, hanging them around the neck, etc. It’s a royal pain. Since he loved his old regular glasses frames, I searched for mail in places that could put in a bifocal lens with no prescription on the top and 2.00 on the bottom. I found Lensable and ordered up a pair after checking to make sure his frames could be accommodated. Lensable had great reviews and was a great process. They shipped a mailer box to us and we sent the glasses back. Shortly thereafter we got a message that the frames could not be used and we would need to pay $25 to have them shipped back. It was very disappointing, but I told them I was informed the glasses would work - which is why I proceeded with the order in the first place. I sent along the note I had received that stated such. They agreed, and sent back the glasses without the charge and the promise of a full refund. Because we haven’t been inside a store since March, we could always take the glasses back to where we originally got them and make the same request. The difference was Lensable was very reasonable compared to the prices paid at the optical shop. So I ended up ordering another cheap bifocal from Amazon. One pair already broke at the nose piece while a mask was being removed. At least these glasses stay on most of the day, are titanium and light, but the bifocal line can be seen. My husband has great distance and intermediate vision. What good does that do when he reads most of the day? I may take a different option if and when I need cataract surgery. If the idea was to get out of wearing glasses, it failed. 

Fuisetaea Rimless Titanium Bifocal Readers

Ever since my husband had cataract surgery in February, he still needs glasses for reading. He had lenses put in that allow him to see both far and near; however, the near isn’t as near as it needs to be. That sort of defeats the purpose. Since he reads most of the day it’s become a constant that he wear glasses - something we were hoping to avoid. He keeps them on to see far, which defeats the purpose even more. He wanted to have his old frames fitted with bifocals, but we haven’t been inside a store since March. So I was looking around for bifocal glasses that are “plain” on the top, and 2.00 on the bottom. They also needed to be rimless and light. We found a pair on Amazon that had good reviews. The only issue I had was you could see the bifocal lines - it looks awful when you are used to progressives. So we ordered a pair and they arrived yesterday at a price much cheaper than any eye glass shop. So far he likes how light they are and they seem to be working out. It’s ridiculous to have so many readers around the house and in the car. I asked him if he would like bifocal sunglasses and he declined - he hates sunglasses to begin with. But it’s a lot easier to read if you are already wearing bifocals. If and when I need cataract surgery I think I would get basic lenses and wear glasses to correct whatever. I’m sure there are advantages to having a near and far lens - perhaps if you are in to sports and outside all the time. That’s not the case with us - especially since March.

I thought we wouldn’t need these things. When my husband had cataract surgery in February and then again two weeks later, his vision was very good. But since we have been cloistered inside the house for a month, he really hasn’t had a chance to really see the difference. He had one lens implanted for distance and the other one sees “closer in” - like a car dash instrument panel. But when it comes to reading he still needs readers - which was disappointing. As was his usual pattern, he reads a LOT - so he has glasses on more than not and forgets to remove them when he Is not reading. He was also forgetting where he put them - like everyone else. So I ordered some eyeglass holders for him to try. Of course he hated them. But like anything else, he got used to it in short order. I suppose it’s nice to be able to see without glasses - especially at night and for a lot of other reasons. The iPad also allows you to increase the font, which helps - but not everything can be made larger. So is he happy with the end result? I’m not so sure. 

Searching for Eyewear Holder and a Dollar Tree Store

Who would have thought finding the string to attach to glasses would be so difficult. My dad lost his glasses at "the home" where he now resides and we thought this might be a good thing to use to avoid future mishaps. I'm not near my computer to order things on line - which I prefer to do.  We are on travel away from home and already had a flat tire that required AAA. So we brought the tire with the nail in it to Sears for repair and patch. So to waste time we looked around for the string at about seven different places. Several were closed because it was Sunday. We didn't go to the mall, but drove around to CVS, Marshall's, Michael's, and even a dollar store. We found a couple different ones - for a dollar. But what I really wanted was in CVS - the second CVS. In the end we brought the new eyewear string and my dad didn't like it. His glasses didn't feel right and he kept taking them off. So much for that strategy. Now we have several strings and no use for them. It sounded like a good idea at the time. Sometimes it doesn't pay to be practical because at the age of 95 not much is.
