Woolrich Hat Number Two

Right before Christmas we were in American Plant buying a wreath. Of all places to find a winter hat, we did.  I've been looking for a lumberjack hat since we moved from the Midwest. I didn't think it could ever get as cold here as there. But I was really wrong! And I don't like to wear hoods because you can't turn your head. So we got a Woolrich hat that covers the head completely. My husband also left his big hat behind. He tried my new head covering once or twice and saw that it did the trick in keeping his head and neck very warm. So as to not be outdone and before the winter season ended, we searched for a hat for him. We found a great selection at Macy's - on sale - with another 25% off. We paid half price for his hat compared to what we paid for mine, and they are quite comparable. It has come in handy particularly in the last few days with temperatures in the teens and snow and ice today. So they both take a top spot on the hat rack that is already filled with scarves and summer hats. Who would have thought Washington gets so cold? Obviously we didn't. But I refuse to take a long walk without the proper gear. I wonder what my next excuse will be? 

Macy's Sheets and Umbrellas

We were in need of a new set of sheets. I thought about just ordering them on line but decided to go to Macy's in Tysons. We've always liked the hotel brand, and to make things even better, we there was a 20% discount. So after brunch at Cafe Deluxe, we headed down the street to see what we could find. There was a great sea green color that we both liked, but obviously they didn't have it in the size we needed. So the salesperson steered us towards another brand and we found something that was comparable. He handed us the 20% card, so we could use it somewhere else. My purse umbrella was lost on our last trip to Florida and I have been using a larger one with a handle. It's great, but it doesn't fit in my purse, and was starting to misshape my handbag. I wanted to replace it with a smaller Totes umbrella. They had three different styles to choose from. I ended up with the smallest one with manual opening rather than the two larger ones with an automatic opening. But this time it was red instead of black. We figured if I really needed the heavy duty umbrella I'd take the big one from home. But you must understand...I have an umbrella for every type of rain and bad weather! So we left saving four dollars on it. I think I prefer on line shopping because it's just so much easier. But once in awhile it's good to take a look first. 

A Rainy Day at Costco Beats the Total Wine Store and Macy's

We were thinking about getting our wine restocked and look for some pants to wear around the house when our friend called to say she was making a run to Costco. We became members in November and haven't been back since because we have such a tiny space and the stuff lasts for quite some time. We have toothpaste and razors to last for two years! But since it was a lousy day and we wanted to get a few things anyway, we decided to go. The Christmas decor has all been replaced with spring goods - Easter chocolate bunnies and eggs replaced the Christmas trees and ornaments. I was running out of ink for my printer and decided to get some cartridges, and the wine was selected without difficulty. I could spend a lot of time checking out all the other stuff there, but we needed to be back home for a house appointment. Probably the best part of this outing (aside from the wonderful company) was finding our favorite cheese - P'tit basque. On the way to the check out we noticed a slew of pants just waiting to be taken. So we sorted through them and found two pair. At that price you simply can't go wrong. The parking lot seemed a lot busier than the amount of activity in the place and by the time we got out it was relatively quiet compared to Christmas time. So we are once again well stocked with napkins and Kleenex - and pants! - but need to remember to bring our own bags the next time. One of these days we will get the hang of it. 

Macy's Purse

I usually carry a very large purse and put everything in it except the kitchen sink. It weighs a ton but I always have whatever anyone needs from band aids to water. But during the week I don't need to carry around all that junk. I have a very small purse that holds the essentials but it's not quite big enough to fit in the umbrella or gloves when it gets colder outside.  And when we travel it becomes the primary purse and fits inside the big purse. So our mission today was to check the shops and hopefully find something to meet the need. My husband always comes along to serve as fashion advisor. We headed to Tyson's and checked Neiman Marcus, then Coach, then Cole Haan, then Saks. We finally reached the end of the mall and headed in to Macy's. It was there I found exactly what I needed at 40% off plus another 20%. Best of all it met all the specifications and more, and the price couldn't be beat. I hope it lasts for awhile, but at that price I just can't complain.
