Rustoleum Metallic Accent Paint

I’m not sure what happened to the grab bars in the bathroom tub/shower. For whatever reason the area doesn’t seem to dry and the end result is some ugly looking rust on the underside. We usually hang the bath mat on the grab bar after use, and that doesn’t help. But I’ve been in the mood to touch up things lately so they look a bit more like new. We recently got some grout paint that was used to touch up the discolored grout. It worked really well. We got a new bath mat. It looks really nice. So I got some Rustoleum metallic accent paint called sterling silver. Of course I wiped down and cleaned the areas in question. And I used a sponge applicator for lack of anything else. The area is quite tiny and hardly observable. But I know it is there. So the first coat just seemed to be quite watery and didn’t cover anything. So I held a paper towel beneath the area in question and the paint just ran down like water, but the paint itself was much thicker. So rather than use the sponge applicator I found a cotton swab that was just the right size to dab on the paint. And this time it covered the area nicely. I waited half an hour and repeated the process again. It covered this time as well. It certainly doesn’t look as good as I would like, but it covers enough to hide the ugly rust. I have a feeling that it’s going to happen again. At least I have the paint we need to get the job done - and to keep the bathroom looking half way decent. 

Benjamin Moore Dior Gray Kitchen

I hope I like it. My husband has not been happy with the color of the old kitchen cabinets since we added a backsplash. Yes, the cabinets were worn and chipped, but I thought the existing color created a warmer tone against the masculine feel of the black and white glass tiles. And he hated the color of the drop leaf table too. So after discussing the options for a few weeks, we finally picked out a Benjamin Moore Dior Gray paint. We didn't want it to be too light - we had white cabinets in our old home - and not too dark. For a tiny space the last thing I want is a gloomy room. The work started yesterday. The upper cabinet doors and the base cabinets were primed. The table was sanded down. The initial coat was painted and the doors were set outside on the patio to dry. I think it is going to take more than a couple of days to get this  ll done. It will be worth it if I like it. But I haven't made up my mind yet.

It took forever to get the stain of the new wallbed to match the existing television cabinet. After thinking for seven years about what we would do to eliminate the huge king size sofa bed, we decided a custom built wallbed might just do the trick. But it had to be built around our tv cabinet, and the rest of the furniture in the house would be planned around this configuration in the studio apartment. But, as things go, the wood in our apartment expands and contracts during the winter and summer months. What seemed like the perfect fit in the summer, no longer did during the last few months. So we called the company about it, and they came to refresh the spots that no longer had stain on them along the seams, and promised to send a paint stick to freshen it up ourselves if and when it happens again. I know it will, because it does every year ... to the floor, and the crown moulding, and now the wall bed. Luckily the paint sticks arrived in the mail after a few weeks. I am hoping we won't need to use it. But knowing my luck, when we do, it will be dried out. 

Persimmon and Southern Comfort

We are doing a little update to the apartment since it has not been painted for almost eight years. The walls have been dinged and scratched and looking to be revitalized. We have not been able to decide what colors to use so we asked a friend of ours for advice. We had a designer in Milwaukee who knew our house and our taste. Here it is a very different story. We thought an accent wall might look pretty in the bedroom and the rest of the tiny space would be a neutral color throughout. We settled on Benjamin Moore Southern Comfort for everything and Persimmon for the accent. The neutral color is almost the same as what's already there. The Persimmon is interesting and can always be painted over if we don't like it. Since the bathroom is so small the walls will also be neutral but we can use the accent bolder color in the shower curtain and towels. It's the same color as the guy's pants in the community bathing scene. Let's hope it turns out okay. At least we'll get rid of the ugly yellow - that was really not a good idea.
