Wagtime Too Gallery Wall Update

It's been awhile since I updated the gallery wall at the Wagtime shop on Capitol Hill. We took a roadtrip to the great Northwest in June; starting in July we had a major bathroom and miscellaneous renovation that is almost done; and in August we made an emergency trip to Florida for my mom's broken hip which was followed by a massive hurricane. So I set to work last weekend printing out some new digital pet portraits that I've completed since the beginning of the year, and packed up my spray glue to mount the images on the existing foam board. My husband drove me over to the shop across from the Navy Yard and for about an hour the wall was transformed again. Out with the old and in with the new. I also had to print up a big batch of business cards to leave in the little holder, and also sprinkle strategically about the portraits. What started several years ago as a request to use the space for the portraits has become a familiar routine. I would like to thank Lisa Schrieber once again for allowing me to use the space. I am amazed how resilient the digitalart images maintain their color in the bright south sunshine and heat. In spite of that it's fun to switch it up every few months. I remember each and every one of the commissioned works - the pups and kitties come from all over the US. It's a great spot to display them. Stop by if you are ever in DC! 

Silent Auction for Wagtime

Thanks to Lisa Schrieber, a few years back I started a "gallery wall" at the Wagtime Too shop across from the Navy Yards on Capitol Hill. I've been displaying my custom commissioned digital pet portraits ever since. Lisa asked me the other day if I'd like to contribute an item for a silent auction they are sponsoring this month. Of course I would! So I needed to get a foam board at Staples and figure what might look nice to showcase my work. It took a few days to get it straight in my head, print out a few items, try some options kinda like a jigsaw puzzle, print out a few more things, eliminate others, and finally start glueing everything down. Then I needed to print up some business cards and cut them down to size, print out additional pet portraits to in preparation for a redo to the existing gallery wall, and now plan some time to actually update the wall. It's hard to believe I've been doing this for almost five years now. So yesterday when we walked past the space with an out of town visitor I was happy to say it is all my work! What a great way to show it off. Thanks again Lisa! 

Updating the Wagtime Gallery Wall on Capitol Hill

Across the street from the historic Navy Yard on Capitol Hill is Wagtime! It's a great place for all things dogs and cats. And luckily for me, I have a storefront "gallery wall" to showcase my digital art custom pet portraits. Every few months for the last few years, I've been updating and refreshing the wall with the custom portraits that I've painted for customers from all over the country. Once I have at least fifteen or more available since the last update, I print them from my iPad to the very slow HP printer in my closet studio, along with a few sheets of business cards and a few in process photos. Then they are cut to size and everything is packed up in to my carry case, including spray on and stick glue and Velcro. Since most of the new pieces replace older ones, I don't need to mount the new images on new foam board pieces, but simply stick them on over the older images. It's so nice to be able to show the portraits this way. I'd like to thank Lisa Schrieber for allowing me to use her space, and really appreciate the positive press Wagtime has provided. For about four years I have been displaying my custom pet portraits at the Wagtime shop on Capitol Hill across from the Navy Yard. Thanks to Lisa Schrieber, she has allowed me to use this space as my "gallery wall." Since my paintings are hand done using my iPad, they are digital all images. When customers order portraits, the end result is a jpeg image. So this gives me an opportunity to print and showcase my art at a great place. Wagtime also produces a monthly newsletter and I was thrilled to be mentioned front and center. I just want to thank Lisa again for letting me use this space and also for promoting my work. Last Christmas was a really busy time and I was finally able to change up the display a few weeks ago. It gives me an incentive to keep doing what I really enjoy. Thanks Lisa and Wagtime!

Wagtime Gallery Wall Update

I've been painting pet portraits over the last few years - dogs, cats, birds. I create them using my iPad - the images are digital and can be used in a variety of ways. Rather than mats and frames, they can be turned in to stretched canvas, t shirts, coffee mugs, and a lot of non conventional items. Thanks to Lisa Schrieber at the Wagtime Shop across from the Navy Yard on Capitol Hill, I also have a gallery wall. And it needed to be updated. I was inundated with custom orders for Christmas, and just now found some time to print the portraits so I could display them. I use my old HP printer to do just that, and it takes awhile to get them all done. So today I finally had an opportunity to freshen things up. Luckily I was able to use my glue spray, and simply apply the new image over the older one. This time I added a few "in process" examples to so how the images are painted. It is surprising how well the portraits withstand the heat and direct sunlight. I'm really happy with the way they turned out, and appreciate the space to showcase them. Thanks Lisa! 

Thanks Wagtime

On Sunday I refreshed my gallery wall at the Wagtime Shop on Capitol Hill. I had several new pet portraits ready to display and needed to make sure everything was still looking like it should given the extreme heat and cold conditions in the space. Yesterday I received the Wagtime newsletter and there was a little feature on the first page about my artwork. I was so pleased to get the mention, but also to have the space in the shop to show my work. It's in such a great area right across from the historic Navy Yard on M Street. I want to thank Lisa Shrieber for giving me the opportunity to hang my pet portraits. There has to be close to 80 portraits on display representing pets from all over the US, Australia, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Digital art is so versatile and can be highlighted in a traditional "gallery" setting or many unconventional ways. Thanks Lisa for your support!! 

Time to Refresh the Wagtime Gallery Wall

It was time to visit Wagtime and refresh my portrait gallery. I've been adding and rearranging my custom pet portraits there for almost three years. Given the extreme heat and cold this year, the Velcro holds the foam board well, but the full sun and direct light can fade some of the pet portraits. So last week I printed out all the latest artwork, then went to Staples to pick up more heavy duty velcro. Because it was so hot outside this afternoon - 90's on the last day of May - my husband came in with me. He usually waits out in the car while I get things done. I only needed to replace four and hang two more, so it didn't take a lot of time, but all my day care furry friends were a lot louder than usual behind the walls I was working on. M street, where Wagtime is located across from the Navy Yard, is finally finished, so this was the first time we saw the shop without orange construction barrels all around it. The red brick cross walks go well with this very old neighborhood. It's such a great place to have a gallery wall. Every time I come in all my business cards are gone. So if you are ever in DC, stop by the gallery wall. It's situated in just the perfect place. 

A Drive On M Street and Barracks Row

We didn't want to drive directly back home after brunch so we took a detour on M Street. Things have changed a lot since we first moved here - on the other side of the freeway - and will continue to progress for many more years to come. The Nationals Stadium stands in the distance, but the path has been cleared for yet another condominium, shopping, restaurant complex. The ice skating venue has a few customers at Canal Park. The new Harris Teeter just opened amid another complex of apartments, condos, and restaurants. My husband still prefers the one on Pennsylvania Avenue, although this one is much closer to us. Up the street is the Navy Yard complex. It appears that the many year freeway and road construction project may finally be coming to an end. But the train track renovation will soon take its place. We turn around at the Wagtime Shop where I have a "gallery wall" of pet portraits. There is a fenced in area where the pooches are allowed to romp as weather permits. Turning up on Eighth Street and Barracks Row, several urban art pieces are displayed on the sides of buildings. Marine Barracks is well protected by a high fence with guards on all corners. It's a rather dreary outing as there is much less activity at this time of day and year. It all feels so familiar to us now as if we have lived here forever. I guess that's a good thing.
