Snow, Daylight Savings Weekend

What a difference a day makes. Two days ago we were walking on the national mall. It was a brilliant day and the spring flowers were emerging. Yesterday we walked at Roosevelt island. The sun shined bright in the living room all afternoon. Now we have to deal with the unnecessary daylight savings time change and SNOW. At least with this time change we get something out of it - longer days! I really need sunlight and daylight to survive. Rainy and cloudy days do get me down - along with all the dreadful news surrounding us. So rather than walk outdoors we had to walk in the parking structure. It was too dreadful to even drive to the mall and why risk driving when the weather is bad for non essential errands? We never use the exercise room in the building as it’s just not our thing. So we are sitting here looking at the snow falling horizontally. It’s supposed to end this afternoon. I feel bad for the poor magnolias that were about to bloom but hopefully they all survive. Snow and cold were main reasons we left the Midwest. At least we don’t have to worry about cleaning it up living in a condo. Let’s just hope the power stays on this time. 

Daylight Savings Tough in Subaru Forester

We love our Subaru Forester. But twice a year we go through hell trying to figure out how to change the clock. It is definitely not automatic! And it is NOT intuitive. So it stays unchanged for a few weeks until we have enough patience to get through it. First I need to find a written or video tutorial that explains the entire process - and there are several versions to pick from because it is such a problem! Then we keep reminding each other that we need to reset the clock and then keep forgetting about it. So last week we finally remembered and it always takes several tries. This is the best reason not to have daylight savings. Then for whatever reason today, my husband’s favorite clock was unset because we lost power and needed to flip the fuse to get the power back on. That meant I had to figure out - again - how to reset the time and date on that awful thing. I finally got it set to atomic clock last time so it had automatically switched itself this go round. Luckily I got it right on the third try, but won’t know until tomorrow if it’s really right! This clock also has a weather meter that changes color based on the conditions outside. But, if the battery runs out in the gadget that sits in the window sill outside it’s a pain to reset that mechanism. All I can say is at least in this house there are only a few clocks that require manual changes. In the Midwest we had so many more to set. But for obvious reasons it’s still a big pain in the neck. 

The Radio Shack Alarm Clock and Daylight Savings

I detest daylight savings. In Milwaukee we had so many clocks and a programmable thermostat that it was a real nuisance to reset them all. At least here we only have a few items that require a time change. But when I tried to reset my ancient radio shack alarm clock I couldn't. I was devastated! This clock has been with me for at least twenty years, waking me up without fail the whole time - even if there was a power outage.  It's still working, but I can't change the time or the alarm - which makes it useless - until October rolls around again. I like having the time lit up during the night just to stay focused. So the next best option was to start using my iPhone instead. I don't have a charger stand for it, but at least it works. I just need to remember to take it with me when I leave for work in the morning. I really don't even need an alarm clock on most days. My husband is always up long before I need to be, so he is the best back up anyway. Lately I've been getting up even before the alarm goes off. That just means I want to get home sooner. But back to daylight savings.  I still hate it because the mornings are dark again. And that doesn't have anything to do with radio shack or apple.
