Scooter Crutches

One of my colleagues fell in the metro and broke her big toe. She ended up with a boot and walked with a cane for awhile. It used to be crutches were the only mode of transport if a lower limb was not functioning. Last year I saw several of these "scooter" devices in action. They seem kind of appealing at first, but I think it must be difficult regardless of what you get stuck with. It's bad enough to have the need for it, and technology keeps improving. I think I would prefer a motorized device of some sort. Those hills can be killers, and everything around here and most places must be ADA compliant. May be it is a matter of pride? I had to use crutches one time while in college training to become a nurse. Luckily it was during the psychiatric rotation. It was just awful, and I feel for anyone who has to deal with it. I suppose it builds character, but I can think of a few other ways to do that.

I wonder if it really is easier than crutches?

Another Room With A View

When you work in an office with no windows, it is such a treat to go to a meeting where there are not only windows, but one of a kind views from the windows. What struck me about these views today was that there were workmen crawling around the dome area of the Jefferson Building - and if you look really close, you can see a man peeking his head out of the second window from the right just below the dome. This is several stories up, and the workers were coming and going throughout the duration of the meeting. What is also interesting is the cherry blossoms that can be seen from the 6th floor of where we were sitting, with the Adams Building in the background. And, as you look west, there lies the Capitol. We have seen folks crawling around up here too. Our daughter in law got a tour of the dome and took some fabulous pictures of our house from there. I have had windows in my offices before, but nothing as spectacular as this.

Washington Post - Real Art DC

I was looking at the Washington Post on line, and there was a little section that suggested artists post their work in the Real Art DC gallery. So of course I was interested to see if I could get a couple of Washington DC related items on the site. After logging in and creating a personal page name that would be used, I uploaded an avatar and one file without difficulty. However, in trying to upload two more, it just wouldn't accept them and I kept getting an annoying message that it was an invalid file type. I used jpeg and png, and tried to take a photo of the art and try a few different workarounds. Nothing worked. So I left an email reporting a technical glitch because it made no sense that the site would accept 2 items and eventually a third (for a reason I have no idea why). So today I received an email response from the Post asking for all the details and possibly the option to upload the file for me. I sent him all the information and am hoping that he can figure out the problem. It is a great way to showcase your work because you never know who might be looking at it.
