Scooter Crutches

One of my colleagues fell in the metro and broke her big toe. She ended up with a boot and walked with a cane for awhile. It used to be crutches were the only mode of transport if a lower limb was not functioning. Last year I saw several of these "scooter" devices in action. They seem kind of appealing at first, but I think it must be difficult regardless of what you get stuck with. It's bad enough to have the need for it, and technology keeps improving. I think I would prefer a motorized device of some sort. Those hills can be killers, and everything around here and most places must be ADA compliant. May be it is a matter of pride? I had to use crutches one time while in college training to become a nurse. Luckily it was during the psychiatric rotation. It was just awful, and I feel for anyone who has to deal with it. I suppose it builds character, but I can think of a few other ways to do that.
I wonder if it really is easier than crutches?

Ouch!

One huge difference between living here and in Milwaukee is the square footage that surrounds us. We had plenty of space to move about and rarely bumped in to things before moving here. I thought we were finally acclimated to the smaller space, but if one does not pay attention, and wear shoes all the time, the possibility of running into a hard surface increases. And, if one's head feels like a bowling ball, and in general is out of sorts, the chances increase even more. So last night as I was walking back to the bedroom from the hallway, my foot hit the side of the door frame. The lights were out, and I was slightly off balance. At the time, it felt like I did something to the joint between the pinky toe and the one next to it. Luckily I had my foot up all night, and this morning I was reminded that something did happen last night due to a dull ache in the joint along with some black and blue discoloration. Let's hope that's all there is to it and I can get my feet in my shoes for work on Monday. Better get out the tape and keep the 5th toe even closer to the 4th toe, as that is about all that can be done for it anyway. I recall my mother telling us not to run around barefoot in the house. Unfortunately I was just reminded why.

Skin Tone Leggings?

The temperature is well below average for this time of year. The high was 48 yesterday, with rain. Today is 48 and sunny and windy. I thought Chicago was bad until we moved here! Anyway, when it gets this cold, I already have three layers plus on. It is not uncommon to observe people wandering around here in the rain without an umbrella, or a shirt only when a jacket really is required. I couldn't take a picture of this scene, but reenacted it in my mind... please explain the purpose of wearing a heavy short jacket, a knitted cap, gloves, and boots with bare legs. One might think that those legs are really covered with skin tone leggings, but not only I, but every one else can tell the difference. But, in the end, maybe that IS the point - but I'm just too old to think it makes any sense. I'm trying to think if I ever did such things? I grew up in Florida, so I'm not sure it ever mattered!
I guess it's called "fashion"
