Covid Vaccination Plea

My husband snd I have about had it with the pandemic. Since vaccinations have proven to be one of the best methods to mitigate the spread, we are confounded as to why it has become such a political issue. Health issues shouldn’t be political. And just as we thought things were finally beginning to get back to normal it sounds like it’s just starting all over again. It’s like a dark cloud hanging over us every day. So we decided it was time to start writing letters to everyone - CNN, the president, the former president, the Vice President, the speaker of the house, the senate minority leader, the senate majority leader, a Virginia state senator, and the house minority leader. We were able to correspond with 8 of the 9 and received either a “thank you for submitting” and/or an email. Our message was simple: 

Enhance COVID vaccination and accelerate the end of the pandemic 

Vaccination is one of the best measures to combat the spread of COVID. In view of the fact that vaccination has become a political issue, a logical approach to address this is:

A MUTUAL EFFORT be considered by President Biden and former President Trump in the form of a public health announcement. 

This could be an amazingly historic event - one can only imagine the impact it could have.

I’m sure nothing will come of it which is sad indeed. But I feel like we did our civic duty. It’s just not going to get any better without a coordinated message. 

The RNC and DNC Are Right in our Neighborhood

We take a walk just about every morning and you never know what you are going to run in to. We also live just a block or two away from the RNC and the DNC. The roads get clogged and blocked for a variety of things ... and I have a feeling it may happen a lot more over the next several months. As we took our usual path towards the Library of Congress, the photographers and reporters standing by were focused on the front and the side of the RNC, waiting for a glimpse of a anyone newsworthy. This time it was Trump or Ryan. So we hung around as we usually do when these things arise - the last time was for the Obama motorcade at the Sewell Belmont house a couple weeks ago. If I was still working at the library I may have gone to the south windows of the building to watch below. People were watching from windows from the alley and surrounding neighborhood. What's interesting is that the RNC has alleyways behind it and a parking garage below it. Where everyone thought they would get a good photo or story never happened as there were several decoys. If nothing else, we'll watch the news and see if we show up anywhere . We were on C Span at the Scalia viewing at the Supreme Court, and at the senate armed forces committee hearing.  When the hub bub was over, we walked to Pets's for our weekly brunch, then headed over the the Capitol. There were a bunch of congressional staff talking about DC statehood, and a demonstration about nursing ratios in front of the Senate side. In between were large groups of visitors and school groups. The police presence was not unnoticed. It's just another day on Capitol Hill - which is the reason my husband loves it so much. 

A Rally on the Capitol Grounds

Ever since we moved here, we try to see as much free entertainment as possible. So anytime there is a rally, regardless of the subject, we like to walk over to the Capitol and see current events actually in process. You could call it living history. But because I was working yesterday, my husband had to go alone. I wasn't too upset because it was in the 90's and the event started at one in the afternoon. So after lunch, he walked me back to work and then headed out to see the Iran Nuclear protest. I'm usually the photographer for all these things as the photos always supplement the blog. We are both political animals in a way that we watch just about every channel and read stories from all over the world - he more than I. So when I came home after work, I was happy to see that he captured the moment quite well!  It's not unusual for us to stumble upon political types as we walk in the neighborhood. It really gives one a whole different perspective when you live so close to any and all of this action. We attended presidential inaugurations, protests, gay rights, Supreme Court decision outcomes - just about anything and everything. That's one way to take advantage of living on Capitol Hill. It's a very unique spectacle indeed.
