Fall in Washington DC

It's already December, but it still looks a little like fall in the neighborhood. Before the last of the red, golden, and yellow leaves disappear, I wanted to post some of the last brilliant images of the season. When the Capitol Christmas tree arrived this week it felt odd to see the backdrop filled with warm earthy tones. The days have been filled with bright sunlight and warm temperatures. The Christmas decorations clash with gardens still showing signs of life. Unfortunately those flowers and greens in the National gardens that remain are plucked up - whether they need to be or not - to make room for winter. I have always liked the fall season particularly when we lived in the Midwest. This year we visited a few state parks in Virginia and wandered about the woods in search of eagles to no avail. We took a pontoon boat ride down the James River and saw a different perspective. What I can't believe is how fast the time is flying by. That is something we have all heard before. So with the end of each season comes the promise of the next. That never changes regardless of where you live.
