Observations, pictures, and sketches highlight the transition of moving to the nations's Capitol after 30 years of living in the Midwest. A clash in cultures? Maybe not!

Rain Showers and Gardens in the Neighborhood
Our destination today was Ted’s Bulletin for breakfast. But before we ended up there we needed to put on the 2.5 miles of our daily walk. And since it would be raining, we brought along our umbrellas. So we headed toward the neighborhood in NE to H Street and looped back to Barracks Row by Eastern Market. I don’t like taking photos when it’s rainy. It’s clunky when you’re holding an umbrella. But the photos are usually so much better when it’s overcast. Because we were walking on the other side of the street and heading in the opposite direction than usual (we didn’t have to stay on the shady side of the street because there was no sun) the views in front of us looked different. Many of the homes and gardens looked so pretty, although it’s hard to understand how some folks can’t seem to manage a postage stamp size yard! I’m not sure why someone would paint their house black, but everyone has their own taste. I think I liked the garden sculpture of two frogs sitting on a bench under an umbrella the most. It was appropriate for the drizzly day. Everything always looks so quaint and inviting, but we know how impractical most of these homes really are. It was a pleasant enough walk and breakfast was good too. That’s why we like our neighborhood.
