Saturday Morning Drive

The worst part about getting out of our Capitol Hill neighborhood is the traffic on the bridge/freeway that crosses over the Potomac River to Virginia. Once you get over it, it never feels quite so bad. From there we generally get on the GW Parkway heading to Alexandria or McLean. The weekends are usually less of a headache but that changes if there is an accident, roadwork, or sporting and other major event. Yesterday was pretty carefree as we made our usual Saturday ride to McLean for breakfast and grocery shopping. I was still waiting to see the sunshine, so everything was still quite dreary. At least it wasn’t raining. We’ve been seeing - or maybe noticing - more trains on the overpass. The rowers were out in full swing. If it’s not Memorial Bridge getting completely renovated Key Bridge has been getting some sort of facelift over the last many months. When we turned off the parkway on to Dolly Madison Highway a light dusting of snow was on the ground. Of course, so were the geese. It’s a very pleasant ride on the parkway and this was no exception.
