Welcome to Zio Holter Monitor

I used to work in a cath lab; our son is a cardiac surgeon, and my husband is a retired surgeon. So when we learned my husband would be having a cardiology referral for ectopic beats, we had a good idea what was to come. Aside from that I’ve had just about every cardiac test available for a variety of reasons - even a cardiac cath. So my husband had his EKG that showed an ectopic beat and bundle branch block, and he was then scheduled for an echocardiogram - which was favorable. We met the cardiologist this week - a very down to earth, wonderful, female physician. She was everything you would want. Before taking any prescription medications, she recommended having a holter monitor for five days. And depending on those results, she might consider a stress test. My husband had this same issue prior to retiring twenty years ago and again in 2018, but the symptoms went away. We luckily were able to have the holter monitor placed before we left the outpatient center. Things have changed since the good old days. What once was a very intrusive device that you had to carry around with you is now a compact strip that is placed on your chest. After five days the device will be mailed back in the prepackaged box along with the manual diary you keep when having symptoms - or log in via the app. My husband has had a few ectopic beats so we know they will be captured. It takes about two weeks for the readings to be completed. A prescription was also processed that he can start to take after the five days on an as needed basis up to three times a day. I really hope this will do the trick because he hasn’t been his usual self lately. The symptoms started in August and it took him a while to finally see someone about it. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
