Vitenzi Bifocal Sunglasses

When I wore progressive glasses all of the time I used sunglasses that simply covered the glasses. So I could always read and see at the same time. I stopped getting prescription sunglasses a long time ago because the prescription kept changing. So when I had cataract surgery in August and September last year, I would start to wear regular sunglasses again. But tthat didn’t work out as well as I thought because I couldn’t read anything. They were fine for walking, but not for reading - especially in the car or for taking close up photos. It was quite frustrating because I could always read the fine print - even with bifocals. So I have been searching for bifocal sunglasses and not having a lot of luck. I love the ThinOptics brand because of their simplicity and function and low profile, but they only have full lens reader sunglasses. I have recommended that they consider doing readers. Of course, you can order prescription bifocal sunglasses for more than I want to spend, so I kept looking. I found a brand called Vitenzi that looked okay and seemed to meet the requirements. I ordered the black rims and they arrived last week. The sun finally came out yesterday so I was able to try them. They actually look fine - although I hate the bifocal line. And, it was a joy to be able to read through them. My only complaint is that they feel a bit snug behind the ears.  I’ll need to give them some time and see if I can adjust. I really hope ThinOptics comes out with something. Their glasses are so light and unassuming. I do like the idea that I can see distance without glasses, but it’s been a painful transition for me. At this stage in my life I do more looking up close than far away. 

ThinOptics Sunglasses Replacement

After I had cataract surgery in July/August last year I knew I would need to find some eyewear for reading close and also sunglasses for outside. I came upon ThinOptics and both my husband and I really love the key chain prince nez readers. The readers are with us wherever we go as they can easily be attached to your phone or key chain. I also got a pair of sunglasses that I really liked - except after just a few months the lenses were scratched because of the hard shell case - which is one of the reason I liked the glasses. The low profile and light weight glasses were appealing - except the scratches are in the line of vision. So I contacted the company and explained the situation and attached a photo of the scratches. They sent me a new pair without question because I think they know it is a problem. But this time they sent a soft sided case to put the glasses in that would prevent the same problem. I really appreciate that they were attentive and I also recommended some ideas about how to fix the original case - because that’s one of the advantages. The only problem with these and any other sunglasses out there is that I really need bifocal lenses. It’s really frustrating to not be able to read in the car or take photos at close range if I am out and about. ThinOptics has no plan to make bifocals so I’m searching for alternatives. I have actually worn the prince nez readers in front of the sunglasses in the interim. But that’s not very practical. I have to say that I miss my old eyes because I can no longer see up close which I could always do. But I can see distance for the first time in decades and don’t need glasses for that anymore. The transition is taking me longer to adjust to than I would have hoped. At least there are solutions to all of this. It’s just a bit inconvenient.  

ThinOptics Readers and Sunglasses

I guess you could say I am a ThinOptics fan. Ever since I had cataract surgery in August and September, I need reading glasses now. It’s been a big adjustment because I was always able to see up close - even the tiniest print. It’s taking me a while to adjust to this change, particularly because my distance vision is not yet what I hope it will become. Things are still blurry in spite of the fact that I no longer take any cataract related eyedrops filled with steroids, antibiotics and analgesics. So I was looking on line for reader options and came across ThinOptics. I initially got the key chain nose glasses for both my husband and myself. I attach mine to my phone and my husband has his on his keychain. He loves them. But I also needed generic readers for in the house. So I got a pair. And since I like the small footprint and cases for the glasses, sunglasses were also needed. These glasses are so lightweight you hardly know you have them on, and they easily fit inside a pocket. I just wish they made half plain and half reader sunglasses because it can be very tedious when you can’t read - especially when I’m trying to take photos outside and really can’t see what I’m doing. We liked the keychain readers so much we sent a pair to our son. And for just in case we lose ours, another pair that lies flat works really well. ThinOptics comes in a variety of styles and colors. I’m glad I stumbled across them. 

Luenx Aviator Polarized Sunglasses - Secret Agent Man?

My husband hates sunglasses. He never wore them because he thought they made him look like a spy or sinister person. However, after having recent cataract surgery, he needs them more than ever because everything is so much brighter. And since his vision is perfect, he just needs some cheapo glasses because I know he wouldn’t want to spend any money on them. I use the cheap plastic over the glasses kind because I have prescription lenses. They certainly aren’t stylish, but they work. So I researched Amazon to see what was out there. I always look at the number sold, then read the reviews. It looked like the Luenx brand might just be the ones. He hates black rims and lenses. So I searched for an aviator traditional style, with silver rims and silver/mirrored lenses. The surprise package arrived last night and my husband opened the box with some suspicion. The glasses came in a lovely box, in a hard shell case that could be attached to a belt, a cloth bag with a drawstring if you prefer, and a lens cleaning cloth. It was all quite impressive for just $17.99. Today was the first day wearing them, and he admitted he liked them. So if anything happens to them it won’t break the bank to get a replacement. I wish my sunglasses looked as distinguished! 

After Cataract Surgery

My husband has never had surgery. He is blessed. He was also a general/vascular surgeon and oftentimes knows too much. After having the left cataract removed with laser treatment yesterday, we needed to go back over to the doctor office from the outpatient surgery center to get a check on how things went. All I can remember is drops, drops, and more drops. He also had a patch over his eye which made walking and depth perception inadequate. He doesn’t remember getting the light anesthesia cocktail either. When we got home we had a light lunch and he took a nap immediately - but he always does in the afternoon. The problem now is that he doesn’t have the right glasses, really can’t see out of the left eye well yet, and needs to wear sunglasses - something he has always refused to do. Thankfully he has had no pain and slept well last night. I made sure his eye guard was secure -  and he’ll need to wear it at night for a few more days. This morning his eye is bloody, but he has no pain. We are going to go through this in two weeks again for the other eye. Since January we have had so many eye and pre op appointments and filling in forms and paying for lenses, doctor and outpatient and anesthesia and lab bills.... how do people afford this stuff? In the meantime my dear mother passed away two weeks ago today and the trip to Florida and back feels so long ago. Twenty twenty has not started out well for us. It can only get better? Just don’t turn on the news. 

Lenscovers Sunglasses

I’ve had them for four years - a pair of Lenscovers sunglasses. I got another pair to keep in the car too. I didn’t want to buy prescription sunglasses anymore and this approach was the next best thing. They just slipped on over my glasses. You measure the width and height of your prescription glasses and order the size that is slightly bigger than the frame. My size happened to be small. They also come in several colors and are polarized. So when I got a new prescription pair with slightly larger lenses after that, the sunglasses still fit the frames. However, when I picked up my new eyeglasses last Friday I had a feeling my sunglasses wouldn’t fit any more. The lenses are larger and rounder than the typical oblong shape. And of course I was right. So I checked to see what options there were for a next larger size. I ended up ordering a medium size in a silver frame rather than the gold/green or black that I had. They arrived yesterday and look reasonably decent. They are made out of plastic, and cost about $16 - but they do the trick. I’d rather spend more on day eyewear and don’t care for lenses that turn in to sunglasses in the light. There may be better and/or more expensive options out there? I’m not sure it’s worth finding out. Now I just need to find a case that fits the new sunglasses - the old one is too small. 

LensCovers Sunglasses Replace Prescription Sunglasses

My prescription sunglasses are easily 12 years old or older. I got them in Milwaukee at our favorite Optix shop. Since then, my prescription has changed a few times, but I never updated the sunglasses. So whenever I wear them, it's a bit blurry, and there are no bifocals. Sometimes I end up with a mild headache from the stress of it all, especially when it is boiling hot with a full sun. And when we are walking and end up inside, I don't have my regular glasses to switch off. So walking in Union station - to beat the heat - can be a very dark experience. For whatever reason I started researching flip ups for my husband, who refuses to wear sunglasses. In doing so, I came across LensCovers sunglasses and read all the comments, most of which were quite positive. So I followed the sizing instructions and ordered up a khaki colored pair for about $15 - a lot cheaper than prescriptions! They arrived yesterday and I was quite surprised how well they fit, and looked - considering they are really cheap plastic. But the real test was on today's walk in the boiling heat and full sun. For the first time in MANY years, I could actually see things clearly, there was much less glare, they are extremely light, and they covered more face space than my old ones ever did. The nicest part was that all I had to do was remove them when I entered Union station, and didn't need to fumble around to change them with my regular glasses because I was already wearing them. My husband tried them on for fun and they worked for him too. I've gone from wearing contact lenses and stylish sunglasses to prescription sunglasses and now to LensCovers. It's a great option for walking and driving. They are simply quite practical.
