52Frames Rule of Thirds Photo Trending

The subject this week for the 52Frames photo challenge was “rule of thirds.” My photos have not been selected in the top 52 for quite some time - even though many the comments are most complimentary - it doesn’t seem to matter. After all, it is a contest of sorts and it is nice to get selected. However, since about April of this year when a fellow framer pointed out to me that my photo was trending on the main page website, my photos have consistently trended since then. It usually occurs on the day after the album opens, sometimes sooner. And it stays trending for about 8 hours or so. I think it has a lot to do with the number of likes it gets. I’ve spent a lot of time building up a base of fellow framers who live all over the world. Additionally this is a great hobby that keeps me occupied in so many ways. The subject matter dictates where we will go on a morning walk in search of something that might work. This subject took us to downtown DC near the White House. This image of the tattooed couple was my husband’s favorite. Sometimes I should overrule his choice even though it is usually right. Several people said they preferred the alternate to this one. Maybe that would have made the difference? Probably not.

52Frames Shape With Light Photo Trending

I’ve been keeping track of it since I was told in April that one of my photos from the 52Frames weekly challenge was trending on their website. And since that first time that I was made aware that such a thing existed, my photo has trended every week since! I still don’t know what the criteria is, but it doesn’t really matter. It’s such a thrill to see my entry get noticed out of about 2500-3000 photos submitted from around the world every week. This time the image was of a banana wineglass that was being held behind the shade in the dining room for the subject “shape with light.” Two layers of the same image were composed and a sunburst was added to give it a kick. The photo began showing on the day after the album opened and stayed  trending for most of the day. My entry didn’t get selected for the top 52 picks, or the 52Frames instagram feed, and has never been selected as a top three. I was introduced to this “hobby” by a friend of ours in the Midwest about four years ago. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long. It has kept us busy finding places to take a morning walk and try to get the best image based on the subject.  I’ve learned a lot, met a lot of people from all over the world, and get a great deal of joy to get selected to the trending board. Thanks 52Frames!

52Frames Negative Space Photo Trending

I’m really happy to see that my 52Frames photos keep trending! I don’t know how or why, but ever since one of my fellow frames told me my photo was trending on the 52frames website back in April, I have been checking the site routinely after each weekly album is released. It seems they usually appear on the second day. This week the subject was negative space and an image of the Capitol building with one lone young man sitting on the steps was submitted. I have had more comments on this image than most. I didn’t think it would be a negative space image because it’s rather “busy.” But after editing it to a high key and cropping it in along with maintaining the original light on the subject it seemed to work. It’s been a while since one of my entries has been selected as a top 52 out of the usual 2500 to 3000 images submitted every week. And I haven’t had any images selected on instagram lately and I would never expect seeing one in the top three. But I’ve come to enjoy the editing process more than the photo taking - and that might not always jive with the photography definition. I really like creating composite images. Hopefully this trend will continue. I really appreciate the thrill of it all every week and several comments include things like “I need to try that approach” or “you’ve inspired me to try that” or “I’ve never seen that technique before.” It’s a very uplifting experience!

52Frames Line From a Song Photo Trending

I am hoping g to keep in this “winning streak!” About seven weeks ago a fellow 52Frames framer commented on my photo that it was trending on the main page website. Since I don’t regularly check the main page I discovered something I didn’t know about. Since then I have been making it a habit to check the 52Frames site daily. This week the new album with the subject “line from a song” came out in Tuesday like it does every week. On Wednesday my photo was trending again. It’s really cool because there are usually 2500-3000 photos entered every week. So this week makes seven weeks in a row that my photo was trending at some time during the week. And it stayed trending for the better part of the day. Since it’s a dynamic feature it changes up every so often but I don’t know what the criteria is. Nevertheless I am always thrilled to see when this happens. Unfortunately my photo has not ever been selected in the top three, but it has been selected five times in the top 52, and a couple of times on the instagram site. What I find most intriguing is that fellow framers are now asking me about a couple of my techniques including how I use bubbles and also some framing options. I am not a photographer but I love taking photos and I love making composite photos even more. So I am tickled every week if I see my photo trending. It’s a fun hobby to have and keeps me busy and connected to people all over the world.
