A Trip to Central Virginia

This was the third year we traveled to central Virginia for Christmas. Our family moved there from DC more than five years ago, but their transformed warehouse home took a couple of years to complete. So the tradition started when the home was finally done and continued this year. The ride is three hours now because we no longer live in DC and it’s a half an hour shorter from northern Virginia where we moved this year. A big “X” greeted us in the sky when we arrived - like something an alien was setting a target for. Whenever we visit, we take a ride to the land along the James River. A “cabin/cottage” is being built made of steel, stone, and stainless steel. Surrounding the site is a lovely getaway location - completely different from their warehouse in downtown, our new condo, and our old condo on Capitol Hill. If you like nature, you would love this place. Neither my husband nor I are campers, canoers, fishermen, hikers, or outdoorsy types. But to visit is really nice. Because it was the Christmas holiday, we did the usual service celebration followed by Christmas Eve hamburgers and fried shrimp at the local pub, visit the land, go to Waffle House for breakfast, have an extensive feast on Christmas, and watch junky TV. This year we had an additional member of the family - and the furry granddaughter seems to be adjusting to things all around, though she still wasn’t sure what that big tree was. We just got home this afternoon and it was a lovely visit - as always. Hopefully you all had a happy holiday too.
