Dog Days of Summer on the National Mall

It feels like Florida around here. Apparently it is a record for the longest stretch of heat in late spring. So we still try to get a walk in in the morning trying to dodge the thunderstorms and extreme heat. Everyone is hot including all the critters that typically prance about - squirrels, pigeons, and ducks. They are setting up the Folklife Festival near the Capitol away from it's usual spot across from the Smithsonian Castle. The turf restoration project is still very much underway. The fountains and waterworks all seem so inviting. We cut our walk short because of the soupy humidity and headed to our favorite Pete's Diner for breakfast. It was good to get home back in to the air conditioning. I am someone who usually doesn't mind this type of weather, but this is a bit much. But it is better than Wisconsin where it is still quite cold - the main reason we left the Midwest almost ten years ago.
