The Halibut Fish Dinner

My did liked grouper. My mom liked fish and chips. On Fridays we would oftentimes have fish sticks. My mother never cooked fish in the house - and for good reason. In fact we rarely ate fish except at restaurants. But now we eat a lot of fish and chicken and rarely have any red meat. We usually get frozen seasoned white fish, salmon and also crab cakes. So we thought we might try fresh fish to see if it really tasted any different - and supposedly it’s better for you. So we got a chunk of halibut for twenty seven dollars! The only saving grace was that we would make two meals out of it. So we got the blackened seasonings out and coated the fish with flour, then cooked it on the stove in olive oil. It’s probably better to bake the fish, but my husband always uses olive oil and does a great job making dinner. Then he cooked up the onions, green peppers, mushroom and tomato side dish to top off the fish. Then we made some fresh green beans and a bit of rice and baked potato and bread to complete the meal. In spite of all of our effort the fish wasn’t that great and certainly not worth the price. But the worst part was that the fishy smell lingered in the air for days - even after opening windows and turning on the fan. I think we will stick with the frozen products. The fresh stuff probably is better all around, but the restaurants do a better job if it. It’s pretty tasteless anyway. Thank goodness for spicy mustard.
