Our Morning Walk on the Mall

On occasion when we visited DC before we actually moved here we would walk along Pennsylvania Avenue. Once in awhile we would run in to protests of varying degrees. Since we moved here twelve years ago we walk the National Mall almost every day, and additionally when extraordinary events take place. The first major event was Obama’s inauguration. Other happenings included the Pope’s visit, the annual Rolling Thunder Memorial Day biker ride, parades along Constitution Avenue, Louis Farrakhan, Trump inauguration, Fourth of July fireworks, protests around the Capitol, women’s march, Iraq war protests, Gerald Ford funeral, concerts. I can’t remember them all. So today we decided to walk rather than do our usual breakfast and grocery shopping in McLean. The main reason was because getting around town and finding parking is hard enough. But when big events are taking place it gets even worse. And being somewhat of a history lover, I don’t want to miss out on whatever goes on just two or a few blocks more down the street. The main affair was taking place on Pennsylvania Avenue so we made our way over and got caught up in the throngs of the March for our Lives participants. At one point we were packed in like sardines and almost  didn’t see a way clear, and it got a bit claustrophobic. Everyone was polite and in good spirits, but we decided to head back home after getting a feel for it all. It was actually a beautiful day for it, and I’m glad we had a chance to see for ourselves what is an historic moment in time. It’s one of the reasons we like living here, even though it does mess with our daily schedules.
