Gardens in DC

This must be the best time of the year for flower gardens. It’s in between the rainy spring and scorching summer heat. We hadn’t been to the US Botanic Garden for about a month. And things have changed! So we drove in yesterday and parked in our old Capitol Hill neighborhood and started walking on the path we took for thirteen years. Whenever we are in our old neighborhood we are surprised that we actually lived there for thirteen years and I walked to work at the Library of Congress barely two blocks away. By Capitol South metro were beautiful orange lilies. The gardens all along the way were filled with all different varieties and colors. By the house office buildings were lovely huge magnolia blossoms. I wasn’t sure if they were at the start or end of their blooms because the leaves were already yellowing and dry. The poppies and wild flowers at the US Botanic garden seemed out of place. You would never know we were in the urban jungle. After visiting the Hirshhorn, we strolled through the Mary Livingston garden. There were even more poppies and poppy pods. Some unusual greenery was growing along the concrete fence. Everything looked so stunning. There was a huge line of people waiting to get in to the Air and Space Museum. The city is looking like it did before the pandemic. Too many visitors for my taste. But my husband loves it.
