Window is Broken

For at least the last year we have been unable to open our bedroom window. Several people in our building also experienced this problem and it was determined that the earthquake may have shifted the building enough to create misalignment. We found out the hard way by forcing the window open, it got stuck, and when we pulled it down, a piece of something or other broke off. Since we wouldn't remember not to try and open it again, I put a sign on the sill as a reminder because you really don't want to get into another ugly situation and have it jammed open all winter! We have not had much luck with the windows... one of them came smashing down on my right index finger and surely snapped a ligament. Another lost it's capacity to fold inside so it could be washed from the inside, and got stuck. We've had at least two repairmen and Katchmark fix these. One company does not do small repair anymore - they just replace. Obviously it costs a lot more to replace than repair. We called another window place to come out and figure out what could be done. They were on time for that appointment and needed to order a replacement piece. That was done about three weeks ago. They called on Friday to remind us they would be here for the scheduled appointment. Now, it is Monday, and they are supposed to be here early afternoon. It is 1:11, and no one has arrived - yet. Let's hope we didn't have to sit around for nothing, although I would not be surprised. Before we sold our home in Milwaukee, we had all the windows replaced, and there were a lot of windows. They all worked so nice and were insulated. I'm not sure what we have here, but I know they are neither nice nor insulated.
