French Paintings at the National Gallery of Art

When we lived on Capitol Hill we visited the National Gallery of Art all the time - especially when we had out of town visitors. It was close to home and both the east and the west buildings have completely different offerings. We would also often stop there for lunch after our morning walks on the mall. When we moved to northern Virginia over two years ago, we still go in to town about every week. We went to the gallery last week to take some photos for the 52Frames weekly challenge. After spending time in the underground tunnel for the “low key” photos, we wandered around a bit in the East Building and found ourselves in the French gallery. There is a lot of construction going on and this gallery is located in the corner on the first floor -easy to miss. We hadn’t been there for quite a while so it was engaging to see the paintings. As usual I don’t pay much attention to the detail. I like to find things that attract my attention - usually whimsical and quirky with pastel or watercolor like renderings. There were several in this area. We are never disappointed when we visit and sometimes wish we never moved. But the reality of living in DC dawns on us from a number of perspectives. Right new we are more about comfort, ease, and access to the most important things - like doctor offices. It’s just nice to know we can visit whenever we we like.
