Apilco or Corelle Dinnerware

When we moved to Capitol Hill in 2006, our son and his family lived about six rowhouses away from our tiny condo. If and when we needed extra dinnerware, we could borrow their white Apilco stock - and we did occasionally do that when we needed more than six of something or a special platter. We had the same brand so it made things very easy. When they moved to Virginia a lot of things changed. When we moved to Virginia last year, we brought our dinnerware with us. We also went out for lunch twice a week and Sunday evening dinner. That all stopped in March. Since then we have been cooking at home and using the dishwasher more than we ever did. We bought a couple of white Corelle salad/soup bowls over the years to enhance our dinnerware collection. They have been around forever and are very sturdy. The Apilco dinner plates we have are actually quite heavy and we only have six. So I ordered six more Corelle dinner plates to stretch out the dishwashing routine an extra day or two. They are very nice and meet the need, and take up less space in the cabinet and the dishwasher. We don’t have a lot of material belongings since we moved to Capitol Hill and then to a one bedroom/den condo. We had three dinnerware sets before we moved from the Midwest! Somehow we prefer to keep things simple these days. Having a lot of junk is more of a burden - to us.
